In order to remain safe, a computer security mechanism must be regularly updated by downloading the patch files provided by the manufacturer.
Usually, mechanism maintenance consists in:
- Performing a technology watch to locate the new patch files available to upgrade the mechanism;
- Lab testing the impact of the patch file;
- Planning the installation of the patch file and notifying the employees who will be affected by the interruption of the Internet service;
- Proceeding with the installation of the patch file, taking into account the impact noticed during testing;
- Evaluating the new functionalities included in the patch file;
- Documenting modifications made to the mechanism.
